The Positive Challenge? Day 1

My sister, Rachel, has challenged me to a positive challenge on FaceBook - three positive things a day for 7 days.  I prefer to post here, so this is where I'll do it.

I'm supposed to challenge three other people to do this too, but I'm passing on that as well - you are, of course, welcome to jump in.  Let me know if you do.

1 - hitting my step challenge two days in a row

2 -  watching a movie with friends

3 - talking with friends about "Alice's Restaurant"

as an aside. a friend of mine and I were talking about our negativity and decided that every time we say something negative we have to counter it with three positives .. a similar sort of thing.

March .. here comes the Lion

You know, like March comes in like a lion goes out like a lamb.  Isn't that the proverb/saying/whatever? Anyway, my goals for this first March weekend are as follows:

1 - Watch Doctor Who and drink some wine
2 - Walk
3 - Get nails done
4 - stabilize t-shirt/boxer fabrics
5 - make 4 blocks for the Grinch quilt
6 - do 2 hours of Bible study
7 - make some soup
8 - make some bread

I think that's it.  Probably can't do much more than that, if I can even get to that.

One of those days?

Today has started out interestingly.  First I forgot to turn my lights on when driving to the gym.  We have day-time running lights so at least there was some light coming from the car.  Then after I got home I realized that I had worn my pants backwards -- you would have thought I would notice that, wouldn't you?  And then as I was doing my hair, I dropped my straightener and grabbed it without thinking about the 440 degrees of the plate so I burned my thumb.  Stuff comes in threes so I should be golden for the rest of the day.

oh, and sometimes the bottom row of keys on my laptop don't work.  Makes it hard to type.

Alum Rock Park

I have fallen behind in my blogging, but that's okay.  I can get back to it, or not.  Last weekend, our walk took us to Alum Rock Park.  It's apparently been around for over 100 years as a park (actually since 1872).
It was/is a nice even trail, very pretty, but not too exciting.  That's okay.  I really enjoyed it.  Here we saw some deer -- I think a total of 12 of them.

 Mineral springs?
Not sure about this.  Seems to be stairs with nothing at the
bottom -- maybe used to give access to the spring?

That was last Saturday.  Today it's rainy so we're going to walk around the mall.  Might even do some shopping but the purpose is for the exercise.

Month 1, Day 31

Hard to believe January is over.  Usually January drags and the rest of the year flies by .. this does not bode well for the rest of the year.

Had a good day at work today. Productive and I got to do some word processing which I actually really enjoy.

I've started making plans for my summer vacation.  I'm planning to walk across the Mackinac Bridge on September 1.  I've made a car reservation, hotel and cottage reservations.  No plane yet, but I will soon.

Jan 25 - Reminders

So, today I was walking with Michelle at the dish and talking about my blog.  Talking about it reminded me that I started this blog as a diary.  I want to write about the little things and maybe the big things too.

On that other blog, I've been trying to take a picture a day.  Usually I struggle to get just one, but today I have a bunch of pictures.

First, Michelle and I walked the dish ...

then we went to breakfast/brunch at place in midtown Palo Alto.  Can't remember the name, it was simple, like the Breakfast Place or something.

Paul wasn't feeling well (still isn't), so we picked up some groceries (soup, etc) for him and then, after picking up Holly, we went home.  Didn't do much after that .. well, let's see.  I made tea for Paul, tuna fish for Robin, and soup for my dad, then I went to Joann's to get the backing for my January quilt.  While I was there, I got some wrapping paper and some other backing

$0.39 wrapping paper

Quilt backing

backing for another quilt -- yet to be pieced.

I also went by the auto parts store to get a headlight for the car, brought it home, found it was the wrong one -- went back and got the right one.

Then my drawer broke ...

 and Spooky took advantage.

Cooper in a box ..

and now, instead of watching a scary movie with my kids, I'm sitting in my room blogging and watching a sappy Hallmark movie with my husband.

so how's that for my day ..

Anniversary

Today it has been nine years that I’ve been at my current job.  So much has happened in that time.

When I started here…

my oldest son was in the Army, he went to both Iraq and Afghanistan, came by safely, finished college (degree in finance), got a good job, and got married last summer.

My second son was in college; he left college; was in a car accident that damaged his arm permanently; he moved out; he moved back in; he got a degree in civil engineering; he got two different jobs.

My oldest daughter … hmm I can’t remember all that she’s done but she came back from France; she graduated from UCLA with a biology degree (something to do with stem cells), spent a season in the Dominican Republic; watched my two grandsons; went to medical school in the Caribbean – and she’s almost done with that part of it.

My youngest son .. was in and out of trouble, got clean and sober, got married, had three kids, has a good job, bought a house, rented said house, moved in with us, will be moving out this year.

My youngest daughter .. graduated from high school and college (degree in health administration (I think)) is attending graduate school (in public health); moved out, moved back in, dated – broke up – dating again.

My parents visited us regularly; my mother got sick, my mother passed away, my father continues to spend about 1/2 the year with us.

My sister dealt with cancer and then separation from her husband.

My other sister dealt with divorce, buying a house, marrying off two of her five kids . we went to both weddings and are going to another one this year.

My husband started a business, ended a business, retired, started working heavily in ministry.

I have three wonderful grandchildren, I started quilting-- which I love, I made a new good friend. I started blogging and made some wonderful, yet distant, friends.

I’m sure there’s tons more but that’s it for now.

1/12/14 - The Weekend Recap

Had a rather busy weekend.  Friday we went bowling for Stephen's birthday.  His 30th.  Had a good time but bowled really poorly.  I hate that.  Paul and I may go again soon just the two of us, for one of our date nights.  We definitely should plan on it.

Then Saturday I walked the dish with Michelle.  We saw a heron (or I think that's what this bird is).  The picture is really crappy and I'm not sure why.

Then after that we got our nails done and then had lunch.  I over ate.  I don't know why I do that.  It's really annoying.  I should have skipped the soup or the salad or the muffin or something.

Then after getting home, I went back out to JoAnn's to get the backing for the quilt I'm giving to a young woman in my Tuesday night Bible Study group.  I then started the quilting -- actually finished the quilting and attached the binding (I watched a couple of Doctor Who episodes while doing that).  I hand sewed the binding today and washed it as well.  I put together a diaper "cake" for the baby shower as well.

This isn't the finished product; I'll post a picture from the shower.

That's about it ... here's to a good week!

Personal Day

Taking a personal day today to get my dad settled and just to relax.  Might go bowling tonight for Stephen's birthday.  Will post pictures if I do.

Cheers.

Day 11 - April 3

I am a little mad at myself for waiting so long to post these (almost two years).  There is so much more I would have said had I done it ...
